To perform the search operation the command Tools+Search should be called (the menu of table browser window or the toolbar button
). As a result a dialog box “Search” will be opened (figure 26-3).
Figure 26-3. Dialog box “Search”
The dialog box “Search” contains three panes.
The upper pane “Tables” contains a list of table names if search condition for a query built by joining several tables is specified. Such a case will be covered below. If the search is performed in one table only, the list will contain only the name of this table.
Next pane “Conditions for selected table” has a list of rows each of which corresponds to one simple condition in search condition.
Columns labeled as
and
serve for placing parentheses in the expression for the search condition. To add or delete parentheses in the selected row of the condition, one can use buttons “+” and “–” in the special pane
. Another way to do the same thing consist in clicking in the corresponding column of the selected row of the condition. Left mouse button click set a parenthesis and right click removes it.
It makes no sense to set both opening and closing parentheses in the same row of the condition because evaluating an elementary condition has in any case a higher priority than logical operators.
Below you will find the pane “Simple condition”. It serves for adding and editing simple conditions making part of search condition.
