Map browser window

Purpose

This window serves for browsing and editing a map or a theme.

Window title

The title contains either a name of the browsed theme or indication <No name> and a name of browsed map.

Displaying pane

The pane contains features which are in the current displayed fragment.

Menu bar

The menu bar is located in the upper part of the window and contains main groups of operations which can be performed in map browser window.

Standard toolbar

This is the toolbar located under the menu bar. It contains graphic buttons causing execution of most frequently used commands.

Mode toolbar

This is the toolbar located in the left part of the window. It differs from standard toolbar in the fact that pushing the button does not cause immediate execution of some operation, but setting one of the possible modes of using a mouse. The mode determines which actions can be performed in displaying pane using a mouse. Every mode is characterized by its own form of cursor.

Information bar

It is located under standard toolbar. It contains data about selected features.

Status bar

It is located in the lower part of the window. It contains the current coordinates of the cursor in displaying pane, slope angle of display and its scale. Cursor coordinates are indicated in map coordinate system, the scale – in map units per “logical centimeter” of the screen. In the right part of the status bar a name of the current mode is displayed.

Menu Theme

Open

Permits replacing the browsed map or theme by any cataloged theme of the same map but with the current displayed fragment.

Save

Allows saving the browsed cataloged theme taking into account the changes made in the course of browsing. If the theme is not cataloged, the command is equivalent to the command Save As.

Save As

Permits creating a new cataloged theme.

Layers

Opens a window for working with map layers making a part of the browsed theme.

Tables

Opens a browser window of the table linked with feature types of the browsed theme. If there are several tables of this kind, it is offered to choose one of them in the list.

Queries

Opens a browser window of the table or query linked with feature types of the browsed theme. If there are several such tables or queries, the system offers the user to select one from the list.

Legend

Opens the window “Legend” containing samples of styles used for displaying components of the browsed theme.

Print

Permits outputting the browsed theme to a printer or a plotter.

Properties

Opens a property sheet “Properties of theme” for viewing and changing properties of the browsed theme.

Close

Serves for closing map browser window.

Menu Feature

Add

Serves for adding features to the map. Feature coordinates are specified from the keyboard.

Edit

Serves for editing selected feature. Exactly one feature should be selected. Changed coordinates of the feature are specified from the keyboard.

Info

Opens a window for viewing and editing records of tables linked with selected feature. Only one feature should be selected.

Linked themes

A list of themes linked with selected feature is displayed.

Previous Linked

When viewing features linked with the record of the linked table moves selection to previous linked feature.

Next Linked

When viewing features linked with the record of the linked table moves selection to next linked feature.

Menu Selection

Remove

Permits removing selected features from the map.

Feature Type

Allows changing the layer and type for selected features. All selected features should belong to one spatial category.

Style

Permits specifying displaying style of selected features. All selected features should belong to one spatial category.

By Filter

Allows changing the set of selected features using filter of the present theme.

Tables

Opens a browser window of the table linked with the type of selected features. If there are several such tables, it is offered to choose one in the list. All selected features should belong to one spatial category.

Queries

Opens a browser window of the table or query linked with the type of selected feature. If there are several such tables or queries, the system offers to select one from the list. All selected features should belong to one type.

Show All

Changes displayed fragment and if necessary displaying scale so that all selected features were visible.

Reset

Resets selection of features.

Menu Fragment

Shift

Permits shifting displayed fragment to the specified number of map units along horizontal and/or vertical axes.

Zoom

Allows zooming in or zooming out image by the specified number of times.

Rotation

Permits rotating displayed fragment around its center to the specified number of degrees in clockwise or counter-clockwise direction.

Center

Allows setting the center of displayed fragment to the point with specified coordinates in map coordinate system.

Scale

Permits setting precise value of displaying scale (in map units per logical centimeter).

Slope

Permits setting slope angle of displayed fragment with respect to the horizontal coordinate axis of the map.

Previous

Goes to previous displayed fragment stored in the list of fragments.

Next

Goes to next displayed fragment stored in the list of fragments.

Original

Restores displayed fragment which was set when opening the present browser window.

Update

Performs full redrawing of displayed fragment.

Autoupdating

Switches on and off the mode of automatic updating of the window contents.

Autoupdating settings

Permits specifying the interval of time between automatic updates of the window contents.

Menu Tools

Copy to Clipboard

Records the current display of theme in system clipboard to be used by other applications.

Save to File

Saves the current theme display in a file.

Transform

The operation of transforming feature coordinates of map components making part of displayed theme is performed.

Parameters of Point Features

The operation of changing parameters of point features of indicated types or selected point features is performed.

Parameters of Text Features

The operation of changing parameters of text features of indicated types or selected text features is performed.

Rollback

Undoing of the operation of transforming coordinates performed before is executed.

Customize

Permits performing setting of window control elements.

Digitizer

Permits turning on and turning off using of digitizer when editing a map.

Digitizer Adjustment

Allows performing configuring and calibration of digitizer.

Menu View

Toolbars

Serves for turning on/turning off display of window toolbars and also allows performing setting of window control elements.

Info Bar

Allows turning on and turning off display of window info bar.

Status Bar

Permits turning on and turning off display of window status bar.

Large Buttons

Permits switching between display of large or small buttons in standard and mode toolbars.

Menu Window

New Window

Permits opening a new map browser window which contains the same data as the current window when the new browser window is created.

Menu items with window titles

Allow activating any of the eleven opened ObjectLand windows.

Others

Permits activating opened ObjectLand windows if their total number is more than eleven.

Menu Help

Help Topics

Opens the window “GIS ObjectLand Help” containing reference information about ObjectLand.

Mode toolbar

Select – permits selecting and deselecting separate features.

Select by feature – allows selecting and deselecting features intersecting the specified feature.

Select by rectangle – allows selecting and deselecting features intersecting the specified rectangle.

Select by circle – permits selecting and deselecting features intersecting the specified circle.

Select by polyline – allows selecting and deselecting features intersecting the specified polyline.

Select by polygon – permits selecting and deselecting features intersecting the specified polygon.

Select by buffer zone of polyline – allows selecting and deselecting features intersecting the buffer zone of specified polyline.

Select by buffer zone of feature – permits selecting and deselecting features intersecting the buffer zone of selected feature.

Zoom in, Zoom out – permit zooming in or zooming out selected rectangular fragment.

Zoom in to new window, Zoom out to new window – permits opening a new window containing selected rectangular fragment in zoomed in or zoomed out scale.

Counter-clockwise rotation, Clockwise rotation – permits rotating display around selected point.

Moving fragment – allows shifting displayed fragment in the mode of manual dragging.

Ruler – permits measuring various lengths and areas in displaying pane.

 

Edit – allows selecting the feature for interactive editing.

Editor control – turns on and turns off display of editor control window.

  

Editing vertices – turns on and turns off the submode of editing feature vertices.

   

Rotating feature – turns on and turns off the submode of rotating the feature or its vertices.

Adding new feature – permits adding a new feature in interactive mode.

 

Adding inner boundary – allows entering a new inner boundary of area feature.
