Layout editor window

Purpose

The window serves for locating elements in the process of editing a layout and also for specifying properties of elements and of layout page.

Window title

The title contains a name of the layout.

Editing pane

The pane contains display of the layout page with layout elements located on it.

A rectangular frame in the form of a red hatched line shows specified margins of the page. In case if the size of layout page exceeds the size of default Windows printer page it is possible to turn on marking of the layout page into printed sheets of paper by blue dashed lines.

Menu bar

It is located in the upper part of the window and contains basic groups of operations which can be performed in the layout editor window.

Standard toolbar

It is a toolbar located under the menu bar. It contains graphic buttons causing execution of most frequently used commands.

Editing mode toolbar

It is a toolbar located to the left of the editing pane, on top. It contains graphic buttons allowing the user to switch between editing modes. These modes differ in the form of a cursor in the editing pane and actions which can be performed using a mouse. Besides, this toolbar contains buttons corresponding to all types of elements which can be located on the layout page.

Alignment toolbar

It is a toolbar located to the left of the editing pane, below. It contains graphic buttons permitting the user to align position of several selected layout elements with respect to the active element (the first selected one).

Status bar

It is located in the lower part of the window. The left part of the status bar contains data about the current displaying scale of the layout (in the form of percentage ratio of layout size on the screen to its size on a printing device). In the right part of the status bar either some text explaining usage of the current editing mode is shown or number of selected elements is indicated (in the mode Select).

Menu Layout

Open

Permits opening any layout from the current GDB in this editor window.

Save

Permits saving the layout being edited taking into account the changes made in the course of editing.

Save As

Allows creating a new layout on the basis of the current state of the layout being edited and specifying a name for the new layout.

Properties of Page

Opens a dialog box “Properties of layout page” for viewing and changing these properties.

Print

Allows outputting the layout being edited to a printer or a plotter.

Print Setup

Permits performing printer setup without executing the operation of printing a layout.

Close

Serves for closing layout editor window.

Menu Edit

Undo

Cancels last performed operation of changing the layout. When the command Undo is selected one more time the canceled operation is performed again.

Cut

Moves selected element or elements to the clipboard removing them from the layout.

Copy

Copies selected element or elements to the clipboard without removing them from the layout.

Paste

Pastes element or elements to the layout being edited which were cut or copied in the same or a different layout editor window.

Remove

Removes selected element or elements of the layout.

Menu Element

Properties

Opens the dialog box “Properties of …” for viewing and changing properties of active element of the layout.

Edit

Opens the window “Table contents” for editing the table – active element of the layout.

Bring to Front

Places selected element or elements before all other layout elements.

Send to Back

Places selected element or elements behind all other layout elements.

Move Forward

Places selected element or elements one step forward with respect to all other layout elements.

Move Backward

Places selected element or elements one step backward with respect to all other layout elements.

Align

Permits the user to perform one of eight available operations of aligning all selected elements with respect to the active one (the first selected) or with respect to the layout page.

Menu View

Toolbars

Serves for turning on/turning off display of window toolbars and also allows performing setting of control elements of the window.

Show Whole Layout

Sets the current displaying scale of the layout on the screen so that the whole layout page could fit in the editing pane.

Show Real Size

Sets the current displaying scale on the screen equal to its scale on a printing device (scale 100 %).

Show Selection

Sets the current displaying scale of the layout on the screen so that all selected elements could fit in the editing pane.

Show Previous Fragment

Cancels last performed operation of changing scale.

Rulers

Turns on or turns off display of scale rulers by edges of the editing pane.

Snap Grid

Turns on or turns off display of grid points in the editing pane.

Pagination

Turns on or turns off display of lines showing decomposition of the layout page into sheets of paper of the printing device.

Update

Causes update of window contents.

Menu Tools

Copy to Clipboard

Writes the current display of the layout to clipboard to be used by other applications.

Save to File

Saves the current display of the layout in the file.

Customize

Permits performing setting of window control elements.

Menu Window

New Window

Permits opening a new layout window which contains the same layout as the source window when the new window is created.

Menu items with window titles

Permit activating any of eleven opened ObjectLand windows.

Others

Allows activating opened ObjectLand windows if their number is more than 11.

Help Topics

Opens the window “GIS ObjectLand help” containing reference data about ObjectLand.

Editing mode toolbar

Select – permits selecting one or several elements of the layout.

Moving fragment – allows shifting displayed fragment of the layout in the mode of manual dragging.


Zoom in, Zoom out – permits increasing or decreasing displaying scale of selected rectangular fragment.

Text – allows adding a new element – text, to the layout.

Symbol – allows adding a new element – vectorial or raster map symbol, to the layout.

Polyline – permits adding a new element – polyline, to the layout..

Polygon – allows adding a new element – polygon, to the layout.

Circle – permits adding a new element – a circle, to the layout.

Ellipse – allows adding a new element – an ellipse, to the layout.

Rectangle – permits adding a new element – a rectangle, to the layout

Raster – permits adding a new element – raster image, to the layout.

Chart – allows adding a new element – a chart, to the layout.

Theme – permits adding a new element – display of a cataloged theme, to the layout.

Legend – allows adding a new element – a legend for a theme, to the layout

Scale bar – permits adding a new element – a scale bar for a theme, to the layout.

Table – allows adding a new element – a table, to the layout.

Alignment toolbar

Align left, Aligh right – moves all selected elements (except for active element) horizontally so that their left (or right) borders coincided with the border of the active element.

Align top, Align bottom – moves all selected elements (except for active element) vertically so that their top (or bottom) borders coincided with the border of the active element

Center horizontally, Center vertically – moves all selected elements (except for active element) horizontally (or vertically) so that their middle lines coincided with the middle line of the active element.

Fit by width, Fit by height – changes horizontal (or vertical) sizes of all selected elements so that they became equal to the size of the active element.
