The page “Maps” of the property sheet “Properties of user” is shown at figure 87-2.
Figure 87-2. Property sheet “Properties of user”, page “Maps”
A list of maps of the current GDB is given in the list pane. The checkbox General permissions to maps is shown at the figure in cleared state, that is why remaining checkboxes indicate permissions with respect to selected map “N-City”.
Access – this is the basic permission to maps providing inclusion of this map into the list of maps of the current GDB.
If this permission is revoked for a particular map, its name will not be displayed in the list of maps for the current user. If this permission is revoked on the level of general permissions to all maps, type of components “Maps” will not be displayed in the tree of GDB structure for the current user.
Revoking access to the map also revokes access to all cataloged themes built on the basis of this map.
This permission has a higher level than other permissions to maps described below. Clearing the box Access leads to clearing the remaining boxes.
Access via themes only – unlike the rest permissions this “right” is more an “obligation”. If this permission is set for the map, the user cannot work directly with the map: browse map structure, display the map and its components, build themes on the basis of this map and so on. Possibilities of access to map data are limited for him only to map components which are included into existing cataloged themes, and he cannot get access to those map layers, feature types and links which are not included into the structure of a cataloged theme.
Resetting permission only via themes does not reduce but on the contrary increases the total amount of user rights since it means getting permission not only via themes.
Setting permission only via themes revokes the permission to change map structure.
Structure changing – this permission gives a possibility to change structure of selected map: add, remove and rename layers and feature types, change links between feature types and tables, changing displaying styles of map components. Besides, this permission allows removing a map.
If permission to change structure has been revoked at the level of general permissions for all maps, creating new maps is disabled.
Permission to change map structure can be given only in the case if permission to change GDB structure is granted.
Data changing – this permission allows adding, removing, editing map features and also adding and removing links between features and records of linked tables. Besides, if there is no such a permission it is impossible to perform other operations which can lead to changing map features, such as transformation of coordinates, clearing a map, import of data to a map, sewing features and sewing rollback, geocoding, changing parameters of point and text features.
Revoking permission to change data automatically revokes permission to change map structure.
Permission to change map data can be granted only in the case if permission to change GDB data is given.
Information – permits getting table data linked with selected features when browsing a map. If this permission is absent, menu commands of map browser window Feature+Info, Theme+Tables, Selection+Tables will be disabled as well as toolbar buttons
and
(see chapter 33 “Table data in map display”).
Search – gives the user a possibility to select features in displaying pane in the course of browsing a map and get data about selected features (type, layer, length, area) in the information bar. Besides, this permission gives a possibility to change filter conditions for feature types, turn on and turn off theme filter.
Revoking of permission to search features automatically revokes permission to information about features. Apart from that, it becomes impossible to remove and edit features and also create and remove links between the feature and records of linked tables since these operations are performed with selected features.
