Identification of user when opening GDB

If access control is set for the current GDB, when performing the operation of opening GDB (chapter 6 “Operations with GDB”) the system executes identification of user, that is, it finds out who is trying to open the database, whether this person is the user of the present GDB and if yes what permissions he or she has. For this purpose the system opens a dialog box “User name and password” shown at figure 86-4.

When entering the password the characters entered are replaced by asterisks to provide confidentiality.

After entering the name and password the button OK should be pushed. If there is a user with such a name and password in the list of users, the operation of opening is completed successfully, this user becomes the current one and can work with the current GDB within the range of his permissions.

In the title of the main window of the system after the name of the current GDB the name of the current user is displayed and if this user if the administrator of this GDB, the word “Administrator” is also shown.

When entering the name which is absent in the list of users, the system displays a message: “Illegal user name”. If incorrect password has been entered a message “Incorrect password” is displayed. The field of password input is cleared. It is required to enter correct name and password and then push the button OK again.

If three attempts to enter incorrect password have been done, the system displays a message: “Password was entered incorrectly 3 times. Login attempts exhausted” and the operation of opening GDB is canceled. It is provided to complicate attempts of fitting the password at random.

If the user forgot his or her password, he should apply to GDB administrator so that he removed this user from the list of users and then entered him into this list again with a new password and set required permissions. If the administrator forgot his password the situation is much worse. In this case it is possible to create a new GDB and copy all components to which other users have permissions into this GDB.

If in the course of working with GDB a necessity arose to change the current user, it is not necessary to open GDB again. Instead of it one can use the command of the main window GDB+User. The dialog box “User name and password” will be opened again. The system can close some windows in advance which accessibility depends on permissions (map and table browsers, style editor windows), however, all navigation windows remain open.
