General characteristic

As it was said before, when merging both source map and destination map already exist. The data from the source map is copied to the destination map. It is possible that other GDB components linked with source map – themes, tables, queries and styles, will participate in the copying operation.

Layers of the source map are added to the destination map as new layers or they are merged with layers of the destination map. In the last case structures of layers should be compatible, that is, have the same set of feature types.

Copying of source map features belonging to the present layer into the corresponding layer of destination map is understood as merging layers.

Parameters of the maps being merged (base point, size, partition) can be different.

It is possible not to copy some layers of the source map and also specify the region of copying in the source map. Apart from the source map itself, other GDB components linked with the map some way or other (themes built on the basis of the theme map; tables linked with the map; library styles of source GDB used in the map) participate in the operation.
