This paragraph describes different methods which permit the user to choose one of the tables or queries linked with types of displayed features when working with map browser window and begin browsing of this table (query).
When selecting the menu item Theme+Tables the system opens a dialog box “Tables linked with theme” which contains the scheme of links of the theme being browsed with GDB tables (and also with tables of external databases which will be described in the next section). This scheme includes names of all tables which are linked at least with one of map feature types displayed in the given theme. If the whole map is displayed (that is, the command Open for one of the maps was performed), all tables linked at least with one feature type of this map will be available.
Menu item Theme+Queries differs from the previous one in the fact that the dialog box “Tables and Queries linked with theme” in addition to tables contains all queries linked with the present theme. GDB query is considered to be linked with the theme, if the root table of the query is linked at least with one of the map feature types displayed in the structure of the present theme. A query from external database can be also linked with the theme directly, omitting tables.
The menu item Selection+Tables is enabled only in the case if there is one or several selected features in the map browser window, they should all be of one and the same type. When selecting this item the system offers to choose the mode of displaying the linked table at first, opening a nested menu.
All Records – all records of the linked table will be displayed, the records linked with selected features will be selected in the browser window of the linked table.
Linked Records – only records of the linked table which are linked with selected features will be displayed.
One way or the other, in the course of browsing a table it is possible to easily switch from the mode of displaying all records to the mode of displaying only linked records and vice versa.
Menu item Selection+Queries differs from the item Selection+Tables described above in the fact that it allows browsing not only tables, but also queries linked with selected features as well.
The button
corresponds to one of the two menu commands in different states of selection:
If there is one or several selected features and they are all of one and the same type, this button is equivalent to the command Selection+Tables+All Records.
In other cases the button is equivalent to the command Theme+Tables.
The button
is equivalent to the menu command Selection+Tables+Linked Records in all the cases.
The button
corresponds to one of the two menu commands in different states of selecting features:
If there is one or several selected features, and they are all of one and the same type, this button is equivalent to the command Selection+Queries+All Records;
In other cases the button is equivalent to the command Theme+Queries.
The button
is equivalent to the menu command Selection+Queries+Linked Records in all cases.
In any of the situations described above the actions performed will cause one of the three possible results:
If the number of linked tables or the number of queries, accordingly, (all available tables or queries or the ones linked with selection) is not less than two, the system opens a dialog box with a list of these tables (queries). The user can select any table (query) in the list and push the button Browse. A window of browsing the linked table (query) described in next subsection is opened.
If the list of linked tables or queries contains only one table or one query, the dialog box is not opened (because there is no other choice), instead of that the system opens a browser window of the linked table (query) at once.
If there are no linked tables (or linked queries accordingly), the system displays a message about it.
