A link between some table and some feature type (linking a table with feature type) is a necessary condition for setting links of particular records of this table with particular features of the corresponding type (linking records with features).
To link a record with a feature (or link several records in case of a multiple link) it is necessary to do the following:
Select the feature in the map browser window (just one feature, not more);
Select one or several records in the browser window of the linked table;
Perform the menu command Theme+Link in the browser window of the linked table (or push the toolbar button
).
The command Theme+Link will be disabled if the terms of linking are broken, that is:
More than one feature is selected (or on the contrary – none);
No record is selected;
More than one record is selected for a unique link;
Browsed table is not linked with the type of selected features.
If linking was successful the system does not display any messages, in case if it was impossible to link any records, the system informs the user about the failure. The possible reasons for a failure are the following:
Selected record is already linked with selected feature;
Another record of the same table is linked with this feature, and the link between a table with a feature type is unique (that is, it is impossible to link several records with the same feature).
To unlink a record (or several records at once in case of a multiple link) from the feature it is necessary to do the following:
Select the feature in the map browser window (only one feature);
Select one or several records linked with this feature in the browser window of the linked table;
Perform the menu command Theme+Unlink in the browser window of the linked table (or push the toolbar button
).
The command Theme+Unlink will be disabled only if the terms of unlinking are broken. These are the same terms as for linking tables, that is:
More than one feature is selected (or on the contrary – none);
No record is selected;
More than one record is selected for a unique link;
Browsed table is not linked with the type of selected features.
If unlinking was successful the system does not display any messages. A failure may occur only in the case when the selected record was not linked with the selected feature and that is why it cannot be unlinked. The system displays the corresponding message about it.
