Cataloged and browsed themes

The user should clearly understand the difference between cataloged and browsed themes.

Every time the map browser window is opened, the system creates a new temporary structure – a browsed theme. If browsing of a cataloged theme is performed, all the characteristics of this theme are just copied into the browsed theme. In all other cases, that is, when browsing a map, an individual layer or feature type of a map, theme or EDB, and also a group of layers or types, the system builds the browsed theme automatically including the contents of the corresponding components into it. For such a theme <No name> is indicated in the title bar of the browser window, that means the theme is not cataloged.

All the changes made with the theme during browsing (shift of displayed fragment, inclusion and exclusion of displayed layers and feature types, changing displaying styles of components and so on) are stored only in the structure of the browsed theme. Even if the cataloged theme is displayed, changes of the browsed theme are not moved into the corresponding cataloged theme automatically.

The Note

The above said cannot be applied to map feature changes which were made during browsing (for example, removing or adding features). These changes will be displayed in all themes.

To save the changes of graphic features displaying variant, made during browsing, the user has a possibility to catalog a theme, that is, save the current displaying way including it into the list of themes of the present GDB.

If the theme browser window is closed without saving, the browsed theme is destroyed and all changes made during theme browsing are lost.
