Map coordinate system

All features making the map are specified by coordinates in some rectangular (Cartesian) coordinate system – map coordinate system. The position of the initial point of this system, direction of coordinate axes and units of length are determined by the user who creates a map.

In ObjectLand it is allowed to use mathematic orientation of coordinate axes (when the horizontal axis is called axis X, and the vertical one – axis Y) or geodetic orientation (when X is a vertical axis, Y – a horizontal one). By default the system uses geodetic orientation.

For a unit of length of the coordinate system (or map unit) it is possible to take any segment which length is convenient for coordinate representation of the map: 1 meter, 100 meters, 1 foot, 1 mile and so on depending on a particular map. When working with the map, all coordinates and line sizes should be indicated in units of length of map coordinate system. In these units the system calculates and represents lengths, perimeters and areas of map features.

The actual length corresponding to one map unit is unknown for the system. Conversion of lengths and areas from map units into meters, miles, hectares, acres and the like should be carried out by the user himself.
