The page “Keyboard”, shown at figure 12-4, gives a possibility to specify shortcut keys for commands. Shortcut keys enable calling the command without using the menu or toolbars.

Nearly all the buttons can be used as shortcut keys as well as combinations of keys Ctrl, Alt and Shift with other keys. Some standard shortcut keys are assigned by the system by default (for example, F2 for calling the command Save, <Shift+F2> – for Save as and F5 – for Update).
The pane Commands contains a complete list of commands. If one of the commands is selected in the pane, indications of shortcut keys for this command (if there are some assigned keys) are shown in the pane Assigned.
To assign a new shortcut key (or key combination) for the command the cursor should be placed in the filed New and the necessary key or combination of keys pressed. In the field the corresponding indication will appear. Below the field New current use of the pressed key/combination of keys is indicated: “Not assigned yet” or “Currently assigned on: …” The button Assign performs assigning of a shortcut key shown in the field New for the selected command. The previous value for the present shortcut key is canceled, however previously assigned shortcut keys for this command are not canceled. Thus, several shortcut keys for one and the same command may be assigned. For example, for the command Save both F2 and
<Ctrl+S> keys are the commonly used shortcut keys, that is why the user may want to add <Ctrl+S> as an additional shortcut key for this command.
The button Remove enables the user to cancel assigning a shortcut key selected in the pane Assigned. The button Reset restores those values which were assigned by the system by default.
