For browsing properties of one map layer it is required to select the corresponding layer in the navigation window and perform the menu command Edit+Properties or push the button 
. A property sheet “Properties of layer” is shown at figure 11-2.

Until the box Detail by feature types is not checked on the page “General”, this page contains only map and layer names and the total number of layer features.
Page “Parameters” contains only the parameter Partition, since it is allowed to specify an individual value of this parameter for every layer. By default the box Use map partition is checked, that is, for all the layers one and the same value is used.
Page “Styles” enables selection of displaying styles for those layer features for which an individual style for the type or particular feature is not specified. Six subpages correspond to the following style elements: map symbol, line style, fill style, hatch style, font and raster style. In the first five cases the user can choose between using the inherited style (for map layer it will be system default) and selecting the style from the shared or current style library. In the right pane there is an example of the selected style. It is also possible to select the font color. At figure 11-3 color selection after pushing the button Color is shown. Slashed square in the left upper corner of the color box means color inheritance (the radio button Use inherited style means inheritance of the font type, not the color).

Style selection for image features is performed differently. The matter concerns monochrome images because for color images style settings are ignored. At figure 11-4 selection of background color for monochrome image features of the layer is shown. The foreground color is selected by analogy. Slashed square, as for font color, means color inheritance. Characteristics of inversion and background transparency cannot be inherited.
