A map consists of layers which in their turn are made of feature types. Features of each type belong to one of the five spatial categories (point, line, area, text or image). Map features are specified by their coordinates in some Cartesian coordinate system.
When creating a map it is required to specify map domain parameters which affect the optimization of internal representation.
The system provides a set of operations for adding, removing and clearing maps and their components and also for changing the order of map layers.
