An additional tool for customizing allocation of window control elements is moving toolbars in the position mostly convenient for the user.
To move the toolbar it is enough to place the cursor on the free pane space (not occupied by buttons) and drag the pane to another place holding down the left mouse button. While moving the toolbar it is displayed as an outline rectangle attached with the cursor.
Moving of the toolbar is finished when the user releases the mouse button. Two variants are possible in the case:
If at the time of releasing the button the toolbar is inside the window and occupies the position possible for its location, the toolbar is located in this position. Possible positions of toolbars are lines separating other window panes from each other and from menu line at the top of the window, from the status bar at the bottom and from side window boundaries. When the dragged toolbar goes through one of these separating lines, its outline rectangle changes its sizes showing the possible toolbar location.
In all other positions inside and outside the window the toolbar forms an individual window.
At figure 12-6 one of the moments of dragging the mode toolbar in the map browser window is shown. The toolbar is ready to occupy a new position on the right boundary of the window.
Figure 12-6. Moving mode toolbar
If the user created a new toolbar by means of the dialog box “Customize”, this pane is initially displayed as an individual window. The user can move the toolbar to any possible position as described above.
If the user pushes the button Default in the dialog box “Customize”, window toolbars return to the initial state together with other control elements.
