What is a map?

When we use the word “map” we imagine some picture on the surface with multi-colored lines and areas, map symbols and notes, with the specified scale. Maps in ObjectLand do not contradict this “common” notion. The map looks approximately like this, when it is displayed on the screen or when it is printed out to a printer or plotter. But this is outward appearance. To work with maps successfully, one should understand the essence of the notion “map” in ObjectLand, of what parts the map consists and what operations can be performed with it.

In GIS ObjectLand map is a set of spatial data, describing some two-dimensional (flat) area with the specified coordinate system. One GDB can contain several maps.
