The page “Modes” is present in property sheets of EDB queries of both types. It contains parameters of request to an external data source used to obtain the resultant set of query records (figure 42-8).

In the pane Totals for calculated fields there is a checkbox Show. If it is checked then the totals will be displayed as the last row when browsing the query.
All changes of request parameters as well as changes of other properties of query will become active right after closing the property sheet after pushing the button OK. A new request with changed values of parameters will be sent.
The page “Permissions” of the property sheet shown at figure 42-9 displays the possibility for the user to perform basic types of actions when browsing a query.
Figure 42-9. Property sheet “Properties of query”, page “Access”
The following permissions with respect to a query are distinguished: access – the possibility to browse a query; update – changing of existing records; insert – creating new records; delete – removing of existing records.
The checkbox Read-only indicated absence of permissions to update, insert or delete records.
If the user has not a specific permission, causes of this are displayed in the right part of the window. In particular, for queries built specifying the statement SELECT directly, only read access is possible.
It should be kept in mind that permissions to EDB components are in no way connected with permissions to internal GDB components determined in ObjectLand and described in the section “Access control”. It means that the user who has access to all internal components of GDB should not necessarily be granted access to the data of some external source or vice versa.
