Opening and closing EDB

Opening of the EDB is the process of establishing the connection with the data source performed using the corresponding SQL requests. After opening the EDB, the user gets access to its components – tables and queries.

In ObjectLand navigation window a sign of a red colour: corresponds to closed EDB, the sign of a green colour: – to opened ones.

If a closed GDB is selected in the pane of the navigation window, the following text is displayed in the list pane instead of the list of EDB components: “Database is closed. Component information is inaccessible”

To open an EDB the user should select it in the pane of the navigation window and perform the menu command Edit+Open.

In the course of opening the EDB, the user may be requested to provide additional information, in particular – name and password, if they are required to get access to the source and were not saved during addition of the EDB. It depends on some particular data source and connection parameters.

To close the EDB one should perform the menu command Edit+Close for it. Besides, when closing the current GDB, all EDBs making part of its structure will be closed.

For saved EDBs it is possible to specify the mode of autoopening. To do this it is necessary to use the page “General” of property sheet of EDB. If this mode is set for EDB, the system will automatically perform the command of opening EDB, each time the corresponding GDB is opened. The result of performing the command will be just the same as when opening the EDB manually.

The mode of autoopening of EDB works only in the case if the box Autoopening external databases is checked in the dialog box “ObjectLand settings” on page “GDB Opening”. If this box is cleared, the operation of autoopening is bypassed for all EDBs. It could be useful, for example, in the case when it is known in advance that connection with the data source cannot be established for some reasons.
