When the EDB is added, all or some components of selected data source are included into the EDB structure namely tables, views, system tables, synonyms, either only the components which belong to the current user or components belonging to other users as well. All the components become EDB tables from the point of view of ObjectLand.
EDB tables are in many aspects similar to internal tables of ObjectLand, that is why the set of operations the user can perform with them (and the set of menu commands and toolbar buttons accordingly) coincides in most cases. It is possible to perform browsing for all types of tables. When doing this the user can hide and rename fields, set their width, specify conditions of sorting and searching records, set reference tables for fields, perform joining of tables, determine calculated fields, etc.
The possibility to perform some operations with EDB tables depends on peculiarities of selected data source and the method of connecting with it. It concerns, for example, the possibility to edit a table and also to get total values by calculated fields.
Some operations are disabled for EDB tables or are meaningless (the corresponding menu items are absent). For example, it is not possible to rename an EDB table or to perform the operation of cleaning, that is, deleting all records of such a table, using ObjectLand tools. Such operations as copying, moving and joining EDB tables are also not provided in ObjectLand.
To perform those operations with EDB tables that aren't provided in ObjectLand, one can use the server program which manages data of the external source (for example, Microsoft Access or Paradox).
