Properties of EDB as a single whole are displayed and can be partially changed by the command Edit+Properties of the navigation window, when the EDB is selected in the pane of the window. A property sheet of EDB is opened. The page “General” of this property sheet is shown at figure 42-1.
Figure 42-1. Property sheet “Properties of EDB”, page “General”
Some EDB properties display parameters characterizing the method of connection with the data source. These parameters are specified in wizards of adding and changing EDB (chapter 39 “Adding an external database”). However, it should be noted that EDB changing wizard can be called only for the closed EDB; it displays parameter values of the connection which the system will use when connecting with the data source next time. In contrast to that, the property sheet can be called for closed as well as for opened EDB.
If the user changes parameters in the property sheet of opened EDB, the changes cannot always immediately come into force. For some parameters it is required to reopen the EDB, that is, break up the connection with the data source and establish it again so that the new specified modes became active. The system warns the user about it.
On the page “General” of the property sheet general data on EDB are given: EDB name, named data source and ODBC driver used, user's name in the data source (if it is specified) and also two fields characterizing the current state of EDB: whether it is saved in GDB structure and whether it is opened at the moment.
The field Supporting layers indicates if data source capabilities provide for creating layers as a special EDB component type. This information is available only for open EDBs.
The checkbox Autoopen shows that the present EDB should be opened automatically when the GDB is opened. The checkbox Use saved qualifier permits using the path to the folder or data file which was saved before.
If the used source supports a multi-user access, it is possible to indicate the mode of saving user's name and password in the pane Save user data, which gives the possibility not to enter data manually each time the EDB is opened.
The rest two pages of the property sheet fully repeat the pages of EDB adding/changing wizard (see chapter 39 “Adding an external database”).
