Setting request modes

If at the previous two steps of EDB adding wizard setting of connection with the data source was performed, at the third step of the wizard (figure 39-3) modes of executing SQL requests and building a resultant set of records are set.

The field Max data length of long values plays some role when working with the data sources which support very long (up to several gigabytes) record fields. The set value of maximum size of long fields specifies the number of characters (bytes) counted from the beginning of long field and displayed in the browser window of EDB query. Setting of a big value of the maximum size of long fields may lead to increase of network traffic and decrease of productivity of access to records. By default the value of the maximum data length of long values equal to 100 characters (bytes) is taken.

The value specified in the field Request timeout determines the interval of time of expecting execution of the request to the data source. If the set timeout value is zero, ObjectLand will be expecting execution of the request unrestrictedly long.

The value in the field Rowset size determines how many records of the resultant set will be read during one request to the data source. Enlargement of this parameter can increase the work efficiency at the cost of additional memory capacities used. The size of the rowset which is actually used also depends on peculiarities of every concrete data source.
