In the mode of editing the cursor can take different shapes depending on the set submodes, position of the cursor towards the features, and thus on the operations which can be performed using a mouse. In table 17-1 a list of cursor shapes in editing is given.
Cursor shape | Variant of editing mode | Conditions | Actions with a mouse |
| Editing a feature as a whole Rotating feature | The cursor is outside feature boundaries. | Clicking results in resetting selection of the feature for editing. |
| Editing a feature as a whole Rotating feature | The key Ctrl is held down. The cursor is outside feature boundaries. | A mouse click doesn't give any effect. |
| Editing a feature as a whole Rotating feature | The key Alt is held down. The cursor is anywhere, except on handles. | A click results in resetting selection of the feature for editing. |
| Editing vertices Rotating vertices | The cursor is anywhere, except for the vertices of the feature being edited, edges between the vertices and rotation center. | Clicking any feature results in selection of the feature for editing, clicking outside the feature – selection resetting. |
| Editing vertices Rotating vertices | The key Ctrl is held down. The cursor is anywhere, except on handles | If the cursor is on the edge between vertices of edited feature, after performing a click both edge vertices are marked. In other cases the click does not give any effect. |
| Editing vertices Rotating vertices | The key Alt is held down. The cursor is anywhere. | If the cursor is on the vertex handle the vertex mark is removed after clicking. If the cursor is on the edge between the vertices, the marks of both vertices of the edge are removed. If the cursor is on the edited feature, editing operation is completed. In other cases the click does not give any effect. |
| Editing a feature as a whole Rotating feature | The cursor is on the edited feature. | It is possible to move the feature while holding down the left button. |
| Editing a feature as a whole | The cursor is on the feature that can be selected for editing. | A click results in selecting the feature for editing. It is possible to move the feature while holding down the left button. |
| Editing a feature as a whole | The cursor is on resizing handle. | Moving the handle causes changing feature size. |
| Rotating feature | The cursor is on rotation handle. | Moving the handle causes rotation of a feature. |
| Rotating feature Rotating vertices | The cursor is on the rotation center. | It is possible to move the rotation center while holding down the left button. |
| Editing vertices | The cursor is on the handle of marked vertex. | It is possible to move a vertex while holding down the left button. |
| Editing vertices | The cursor is on the handle of non-marked vertex. | A click marks the vertex. |
| Editing vertices | The cursor is on the edge connecting vertices. | A click causes marking of both edge ends. Moving a mouse while holding down the left button creates a new vertex which moves with the cursor. |
