The window of editor control

An auxiliary window “Editor control” is opened in the cases when the user turns on the mode Adding new feature or Edit (or the mode Adding inner boundary which will be described below) when browsing a theme. This window is located on the screen on top of the active browser window in which editing is performed.

The window “Editor control” disappears from the screen if the user turns on any other mode except the three enumerated ones, and also if the user activates any other window apart from map browsing window. Also there is a possibility to close and open the window “Editor control” using the button . Closing of this window permits the user to free additional space on the screen.

The window “Editor control” enables the user to control the editing process and also track the current values of coordinates and other parameters of the edited feature in the course of editing.

The information in the control window is located on three tabbed pages “Input”, “Information” and “Snap Grid” and also on the lower pane of the window. The view of the window “Editor control” with the selected page “Information” is shown at figure 17-2.

Parameters specified on the page “Input” play some role only in adding a new feature. When editing the existing feature, all the information from this page does not affect the system work at all.

The page “Input” always contains fields Layer and Type which allow selection of a layer and type to which the next added feature will belong. Other fields of this page depend on the spatial category of the feature being added and will be described below.

On page “Information” parameters of the feature selected for editing are displayed. A set of parameters depends on the spatial category of the selected feature. Right in the process of performing editing operations the list of displayed parameters is considerably extended including continuously tracked values of parameters of feature shift from the original position. It is possible to “freeze” display of some feature parameters by clearing the box to the left of the parameter's name. In this case the changed parameter value will be shown only after the editing operation is completed.

On page “Snap Grid” parameters of editing grid, which can be used in the editing process for rounding coordinate values of features being edited, are specified. The editing grid (snap grid) should not be confused with coordinate grid of theme browser. If the box Visible is checked, the editing grid is displayed in the form of a set of equidistant points. The distance between the points and position of the initial point can be adjusted using the fields Base point X, Y and Step X, Y.

If the box Snap features is checked, when the feature is moved, coordinates of object binding points will always coincide with coordinates of one of grid points. The first vertex in the order of building vertices is a binding point for area and line features, for point features – the feature itself, for text features – the top left corner of the bounding box, for image features – the first vertex of the boundary.

The box Snap vertices causes coincidence of every feature vertex being added or moved with some grid point.

If the box Snap sizes is checked, when the feature size is changed the width and height of the bounding box will be set by multiple grid steps horizontally and vertically accordingly.

Other elements of editor control window will be described below in the course of examining the operations of adding and editing features of different spatial categories.
