At the third step of setting wizard linear searching feature type is selected (in this example it is the feature type “Street segment” of the layer “Streets”) and also the table of segments is indicated which is linked with the searching type and determines intervals of addresses on segments (figure 77-13). In this example it is the table “Segments”.
Figure 77-13. Geocoding wizard, page “Setting searching feature type”
In the drop-down lists Start of segment and End of segment of the pane Table of Segments fields of tables of segments containing numeric values characterizing the start and end of the segment are selected. In taken example these are numbers of buildings at the beginning and at the end of the block of buildings.
In the field Field of value on segment of the pane Geocoded table one should select in the drop-down list the field of geocoded table containing values which will be compared with the values indicated in the fields Start of segment and End of segment. In the present case these are numbers of buildings in which there were fires.
Street segments usually have even and odd sides and can be specified by one segment as well as by two segments – for each side. In this connection the setting wizard has a checkbox Apply even/odd segments. It can be checked when street segment is specified by even and odd segments. The checkbox is enabled in the case if integer field of geocoded table is selected as field value on the segment.
When performing geocoding the system considers the segments even for which the initial and final value in the table are even integer numbers. For odd segments both values should be odd. If one of the values is even and the other is odd, the segment is not referred either to even or odd segments and will not be used for geocoding when the box is checked.
In the given example geocoded objects (fires) should be located with respect to streets, however to increase geocoding precision streets are divided into segments, that is why feature type “Street segment” and not the type “Street” is used as a searching one. The table “Segments” in which the fields “Start of segment” and “End of segment” contain addresses at the beginning and at the end of each segment accordingly is indicated as the searching table. Due to the fact that in the example street segments are specified by even and odd segments, the box Apply even/odd segments should be checked.
