This operation is meaningful if the present GDB was opened in the mode of working with the change file before. In this case all the changes entered into GDB are saved in a special change file and all the files of GDB itself remain unchangeable. Operation of consolidation means transferring all recorded changes from the change file to the main GDB files. After that the change file is removed.
For performing consolidation the menu command GDB+Consolidate should be used and in the opening dialog box “Select GDB for consolidation” the necessary GDB should be selected. After pushing the button Open the system performs consolidation.
If the user worked with GDB in the mode with change file, but later, not having performed consolidation operation, opened GDB without using the change file and modified the GDB, consolidation becomes impossible. When trying to perform consolidation a message “Incompatible database change file” will be displayed. Since correct usage of the data contained in the incompatible change file is impossible, the file should be removed by means of the operating system.
GDB which is current at the present moment cannot be consolidated. It should be closed first.
Consolidation of GDB of big size can take considerable time. On completing the operation the system informs: “Consolidation of GDB completed successfully”.
If there is a limitation of user permissions set for the present GDB, only GDB administrator can consolidate it. Before the operation the system asks to enter name and password of administrator.
