The menu item GDB+Create opens a dialog “Creating GDB” shown at figure 6-2. The user should select a folder, enter the name of GDB that is being created and push the button Save. By default the system offers GDB name “NoName” which should be replaced by a more informative name. In the selected folder the system creates nine files with names composed from the GDB name according to standard rules. Created GDB becomes the current one. Right after its creation GDB does not contain any components. Then the user can create a completely new GDB structure (that is, assign names to maps, themes, tables, queries, etc.) and after that fill in the maps with features and tables – with records manually or using import operations. Another possibility is to copy ready structure components from some existing GDB.

To avoid confusion it is strongly recommended to create a separate folder for every GDB.
