Commands gathered in the menu View give a possibility to change the structure and form of the information displayed on the main window panes. Using these commands the user can set the window view to his liking turning off some window elements display and selecting the most convenient form of display for the rest elements.
Commands Hierarchy, Toolbar and Status Bar permit turning on and off displaying of the appropriate parts of the main window
The command Large Buttons allows choosing between two variants of display of toolbar buttons: bigger and smaller buttons.
Commands Large icons, Small icons, List and Details give a possibility to select one format from four standard Windows formats of elements display in the list pane. The first three formats slightly differ from one another, while Details format presents much more useful information for many components types.
The command Gridlines is accessible only if Details format is used in the list pane. This command enables the user to turn on and off display of thin lines, dividing table rows and columns.
Command Setting columns allows selection of a set of displayed table columns in the list pane, the order of columns and their width when printing GDB structure components (the column width on the screen can be changed without using the menu commands by dragging the boundaries between the columns while holding down the left mouse button).
The menu command View+Setting columns is enabled only in the case when the displaying format Detail has been selected for the list pane. When this command is selected the system opens a dialog box “Setting columns”. An example of such a dialog box is shown at figure 4-2.
Figure 4-2. Dialog box “Setting columns”
In the pane Current columns, all columns names displayed at the current setting of table representation of the pane list are enumerated, and in the pane Columns – names of columns which are not displayed but can be displayed at the user's wish. Using the buttons marked with “>” and “<” signs the user can move the columns names from one pane to another thus determining a set of displayed columns. And the column which name is marked with “>>” sign should always be displayed, that is why it cannot be moved to another pane.
Field Width by printing enables the user to assign the width which the selected column will have when executing the command GDB+Print structure.
Buttons Up and Down allow for moving the column name selected in the pane of the current set. The upper line of the name list corresponds to the most left column in the list pane of the main window.
The command Adjust columns permits redistributing the total width of the main window list pane between displayed columns. In the course of work with the window the user can change the width of the whole window or list pane as well as the width of individual columns. As a result, it may happen so that a part of window area is not used (if the total columns width is less than the pane width) or on the contrary, a part of columns does not fit into the list pane. At the command Adjust columns the system reduces or increases the width of all the columns proportionally so that their total width was equal to the pane width.
The command Update can be useful when working in the mode of shared access to GDB. It immediately updates the contents of the window panes taking into account the changes made by other users. If this command is not used, update will happen a little later. In particular, when any pane is activated, its content is updated.
In some rare cases the system cannot update the data automatically and displays a warning message recommending to use the command Update.
