The number of ObjectLand version consists of three groups of numbers: XX.YY.ZZ.
Number XX is a base number of the version which changes very seldom, only in the case of fundamental changes in the architecture or functionality of the system.
Number YY together with XX determines the number of GDB format (for example, 2.7). Changing of this number reflects changes in the structure of storing geoinformation databases which can be used by the present version. Changing of the number should not necessarily be connected with the presence of some functional changes in the system.
When switching to the version with a bigger number XX.YY than used before, it is necessary to perform update operation for those GDBs with which the user worked in the previous version. This operation is performed using the menu command GDB+Update of the main ObjectLand window. Update operation converses GDB into the format suitable for the new version.
Attention: GDB transformation into the format with a smaller XX YY number is not supported!
Please pay attention that 3.0 > 2.1.
Number ZZ is the number of system build; it changes most frequently and denotes the presence of corrections, additions in the system which do not affect GDB format.
When the program of ObjectLand installation is started, this program checks if installed GIS ObjectLand with the same base number of the version (XX) as that of the system being installed already exists on the present computer. If the system with the number which fully coincides with the version number XX.YY.ZZ is found, the installation program offers to modify, repair or remove ObjectLand as it was described above. If a lower part of the version number (YY.ZZ) is smaller than in the system being installed, when the base number XX coincides, the installation program automatically updates the system to the new version. Specifying of the new serial number is not required to perform update.
In the case of a different base version number XX, the installation program does not reveal the presence of installed ObjectLand version. Thus, it becomes possible to install two or more ObjectLand versions with different base numbers on one computer. For each of them it is required to specify a separate serial number before the installation.
Simultaneous presence of several ObjectLand versions does not lead to any incorrectness in their work, if the versions are installed to different folders. If installation of the new version is performed into the same folder, files of the earlier version will be replaced by new files, however, the menu Start+Programs will contain shortcuts of both versions. Such situations should be avoided. Before installing an ObjectLand version with a new base number it is strongly recommended to perform removal of the previous version.
