Chapter 1. What is GIS?

Unlike traditional databases, geoinformation databases (GDB) contain not only table data, but also spatial data which describe some territory and the spatial features (also called objects) located on it. Geographic information system (GIS) is a program system intended for storing, processing and displaying data stored in GDB.
