SHP format is one of the formats of spatial data supported by software products of ESRI, Inc. among which the most famous are ARC/INFO and ArcView. File of SHP format contains data about features. Files with extension SHX and DBF with the same names can be used as an addition to SHP file. SHX file is an index file which can be used for speeding up access to descriptions of features in SHP file. SHX files are not used in import on ObjectLand and their presence is not obligatory. DBF file, if any, contains attributive data linked with feature of SHP file. Data from DBF file can be imported to ObjectLand table linked with feature type being imported.
To import data of SHP format it is required to do the following:
have a file of spatial data in SHP format. Name of such a file has SHP extension. If there is table data linked with features from SHP file, the file with the same name with DBF extension is required;
select the map to which data from SHP file will be imported;
perform the command Import+From SHP Format. After performing this command, the procedure of setting and executing import is started. This procedure consists of several steps;
perform import setting and import data from SHP file to a map and also table data from DBF file (if any) – to selected table.
If the system does not detect serious errors in import files of SHP and DBF formats, import of data from files to selected map and table will be performed in accordance with the specified settings. Information about errors found in SHP and DBF files will be put in report file on import.
