Unlike import from other formats of data the procedure of importing rasters from TAB files does not require composite setting and is implemented using the dialog box “Importing images from MapInfo TAB files” shown at figure 68-1, not using import wizard.
Figure 68-1. Dialog box “Importing images from MapInfo TAB files”
To fill in the pane TAB files the button Browse should be pushed. A standard dialog box of opening a file will be opened. It is possible to choose several files in one folder at once. Names of chosen files are separated by the character “;” in the pane.
The checkbox Image compression determines if the compressed format should be used for storing the imported raster image or not (see chapter 17 “Adding and editing features”, subsection “Raster optimization”).
The button Parameters opens the dialog box “Parameters of importing MapInfo images” which was described above in chapter 17 “Adding and editing features”, subsection “Peculiarities of adding images from TAB files of MapInfo system”. This dialog gives possibilities, firstly, to specify details of performing georegistration of image features, and secondly, to determine, if necessary, a method of raster data optimization which allows to reduce the data size at the expense of partially loss of the image quality.
The user can specify the name of report file on import operation and select one of the two modes of creating a report: Append (new information will be added to the end of report file) or Overwrite (the data existing in the file will be removed and new data will be recorded instead of it).
IMM extension is usually used for report files on import from TAB format.
After choosing import files and specifying report file the button Import should be pushed which starts the import operation. The user can track the status of the operation by the indicator located in the lower part of the dialog box.
After completing import operation the dialog box remains opened. The user can continue import of image features selecting new TAB files and pushing the button Import again.
