The main information unit with which GIS ObjectLand works is Geoinformation database (GDB). Geoinformation database is located on a disk and contains the following components:
maps – structured systems of spatial features of different spatial categories;
themes – thematic (user defined) map representations;
tables – sets of records making up relational database;
queries – thematic (user defined) table representations;
layouts – representations of output documents combining different forms of spatial and table data display;
users – a list of persons allowed to work with this GDB with indication of a set of rights assigned to each user;
displaying style library (fonts, map symbols, line styles, hatches and fill styles).
There are no practical limitations on the number of each GDB component. Not depending on the number of components, GDB is always represented by nine or ten files on the disk. In every instant of time GIS works with one GDB which is current for it at this moment.
