Adding elements

To add a new element and locate it on the layout page the user should push one of the buttons of the editing mode toolbar which name indicates the type of the element being created (for example, Text, Chart or Scale bar). The cursor takes the shape of a cross: . Then the user specifies the position and sizes of the element using a mouse (according to the rules described for every particular type of element). After that the system automatically opens a dialog box “Adding …” for some more complex element types (for example, texts, map symbols, scale bars, etc.) so that the user specified parameters necessary for completing the operation of creation of the element. When adding other element types, the system sets properties by default. In both cases the user can change element properties in future.

The system makes the new added element a single selected layout element. If necessary it allows the user to begin editing (modifying) feature immediately.

If the user plans to add several elements of one and the same type successively to the layout, he can double-click the corresponding button. If a double-click is performed, the button remains pushed after adding the element. If the button was pushed by a single click, then the editor returns into selection mode after adding one element.
