To determine if the borders should be displayed for a cell a group of cells and also specify line style for displayed borders it is required to select these cells, perform the menu command Format+Cells and select the tab Border in the opened property sheet “Properties of cells”. At figure 48-7 the appropriate page of the property sheet is shown.
Figure 48-7. Property sheet “Properties of cells”, page “Border”
The pane All contains three buttons which permit performing operations with a group of borders of selected cells. In case of a composite selection, operations of changing borders are performed separately for every selected cell or block of cells:
cancel display of all borders;
turn on display of outside borders for every selected block of cells without changing inner borders between cells within each block specified before;
turn on display of all inside borders of every selected block of cells without changing outside block borders specified in advance. This button is enabled only if at least one block of cells having inside borders is selected.
The pane Partial contains six buttons permitting the user to turn on or turn off display of individual segments of borders.
Each time display of some border is turned on, displaying style specified in the pane Style is set for it. Thus, to change the border style set before, display of the border should be turned off first using the appropriate button, then the necessary style should be selected and the border should be turned on again.
By default, system style – a thin black line, is used. The user can select any line style available in the shared library or in the current GDB library.
Another way to change display of cell borders is connected with using buttons
and
of the formatting toolbar. After pushing the button
the user can select one of the nine buttons which form and purpose is the same as those of the buttons of the panes All and Partial described above. The style of the border being turned on should be chosen beforehand using the button
. The user can select one of the standard styles including one-color lines of single and double width, and also double and dotted lines. The button Other allows the user to select any line style from libraries.
If the user turned off display of cell borders, he can still see these borders when editing a table using the mode of grid display (the menu command View+Gridlines or the button
of the standard toolbar). Dotted gridlines separate cells in the table pane, but they are not displayed in the layout after completing editing the table unlike “real” borders.
