The user can unite a rectangular block of cells in one big cell. The united cell will have some certain address, the address of any of the united cells can be chosen. This cell will be called union owner. United cell just like a simple one can display data from some array of values corresponding to the owner's address or contain data entered from the keyboard.
The data corresponding to other united cells (except for union owner) is not displayed in the table, however, it is saved and can be displayed again in case if uniting is canceled.
To unite cells one should select the block to be united and perform the menu command Edit+Unite Cells (the button
of the standard toolbar). A dialog box “Union of cells” shown at figure 48-11 will be opened.

In the field Union range, range of addresses of selected block is indicated. The user can change this range.
In the field Union address one should choose the address which united cell will have (any address from the range of the cells being united).
After pushing the button OK uniting of cells is performed.
To see which cell in particular is the union owner the user can perform the menu command View+Highlight Union Owners (the button
of the standard toolbar). The appropriate cells will be marked by a skew cross.
After uniting cells it may be often useful to change text alignment in a cell to locate data in the center of a big cell.
The menu command Edit+Disunite Cells (the button
of the standard toolbar) causes removal of selected cell from the union in which it is included. If the selected cell is not the union owner, the system tries to save the biggest rectangular block of cells which includes its owner in the union structure, but it includes neither the selected cell, nor other cells lying in the same row or column as the selected one. If several cells were selected including the ones belonging to different unions, several disuniting operations will be performed at one command.
