Changing position, size, configuration, slope angle of selected element is performed using a mouse.
When the cursor is located on the selected element, it takes the shape of a cross made from arrows:
. If an outline element is selected (such as a line or a polygon, a circle, an ellipse, a rectangle, neither of them having filling/hatching), to change the cursor shape it should be placed on the outline of the element. After that it is possible to press the left mouse button, drag the selected element to a new place and release the button.
If several layout elements are selected, they are moved as a single whole.
When the cursor is on one of the square handles located in the corners of selected element or in the middle of its edges, it takes the shape of a simple cross:
. Dragging such a handle causes changing of size or configuration of the element depending on the particular element type.
For such selected layout elements as text and vectorial map symbol one additional handle is displayed some distance away from the rest elements. Dragging this handle permits rotation of the element to an arbitrary angle.
Operations of resizing, changing configuration, slope angle of selected element affect only one element unlike the operation of moving.
When performing all the operations of editing elements described above, all characteristic element points (those which are singled out by handles) are necessarily located in grid points. The distance between grid points is specified as one of the properties of the layout page.
To change displaying style and parameters specific for particular element type the command Element+Properties should be performed which opens a dialog box “Properties” for the present element (it is also possible to use the button
in the toolbar). The element should be active, that is, it should be either the only element selected or it should be selected before others.
It is possible to undo the last performed operation of changing layout elements. The menu command Edit+Undo (the button
of the command toolbar) is used for this purpose. Repeated execution of the command Undo causes performing the canceled command.
