Printing a layout can be performed either from the navigation window (the menu command GDB+Print or the toolbar button
if the name of the layout is selected in the list pane) or from the layout editor (the menu command Layout+Print or the button
of the command toolbar). In both cases a dialog box “Print” is opened (figure 45-3).
Figure 45-3. Dialog box “Print” for layout
Most elements of this dialog box are standard and will not be described here once again. It is necessary to pay special attention to the boxes Print to file and Print to metafile which allow the user to get data for printing either in the format of the commands of selected printer or in the standard format of enhanced Windows metafile and also the pane Options containing four checkboxes affecting the printing mode.
The checkboxes Filling, Hatching and Color behave like it was described in chapter 16 “Printing maps and themes” applicable to printing themes.
The checkbox Project on one page causes changing of printing scale so that the whole layout was displayed on one printer page. If this checkbox is cleared, the scale which was specified when designing the layout is used, the number of pages is determined by the size of the layout and the size of printer page. Printing mode with projecting on one page is convenient to use as a test one to evaluate how successful the layout is designed.
Layout editor window also contains the menu command Layout+Print Setup. When performing this command a dialog box “Print Setup” is opened. Panes of this dialog box permit changing printer settings without performing printing. The user can choose type of printer from printers installed in the system, specify printer properties including size and orientation of paper. The possibility of changing sizes of pages is useful when it is necessary to plan pagination of a layout for printing (see “Pagination”).
