Properties of layout page

A dialog box “Properties of layout page” (figure 45-2) is opened at the menu command Layout+Properties of Page (or when the button is pushed, if there are no selected elements on the page). This window allows the user to control page size, specify width of margins and overlapping region as well as parameters of snap grid used for precise arrangement of elements.

The pane Size serves for specifying the size of the layout page. The input fields Width and Height permit the user to enter arbitrary size values which do not exceed 500 centimeters.

The button Size as at printer allows making the page size equal to the size of the page of default system printer. Zones on the borders of the page inaccessible for printing are included into the page size.

If the box Scale when resizing is checked, changing of sizes of layout page will cause proportional changing of all elements located on this page.

The pane Overlapping of pages at printing permits specifying sizes of the region of overlapping of pages which will be used in the case if the layout does not fit into one printer page. When pushing the button Butt-jointed pages sizes of overlapping region are set equal to double width of non-printable area of printer page. It means that after non-printed borders of pages are cut, one can get from the remaining parts of pages exact display of the layout within the specified margins.

It is recommended not to specify smaller sizes of overlapping since in the case of multipage printing a part of display at the joint of pages will be lost. On the contrary, it could be convenient for gluing pages in one page to specify bigger overlapping sizes as for butt-joint printing.

If the layout being printed does fit into one printer page, sizes of the overlapping region do not play any role.

The pane Margins allows the user to enter sizes of margins on all sides of the page. Margin borders are shown on the layout page by a red dashed line. Parts of layout elements which are located on page margins are not output to a printing device.

By default the system sets the width of all margins equal to 1 cm.

The pane Step of snap grid serves for specifying the distance between grid points along the horizontal and vertical axes in the editing pane. The grid is used for regulating arrangement of layout elements. When adding a new element or modifying the existing one, its characteristic points (rectangle vertices, circle center and so on) are located in the grid nodes.

By default the system sets the grid step 0.1 cm.
