To add a polygon to a layout the user should push the button
in the mode toolbar, then draw the polygon in the editing pane clicking in every vertex of this polygon. Building the polygon is completed after a double click in the last vertex.
Unlike map area features, a polygon on a layout should not necessarily be simple. It means that polygons with self-intersections as shown at figure 46-3 are allowed.

According to some specific rules Windows determines which parts of the polygon with self-intersections are subject to filling and which are not.
The added polygon becomes selected element of the layout. The user can change the polygon style using the command Element+Properties.
