To add a polyline (that is, a broken line and in the simplest case – just a segment of the straight line) to a layout the user should push the button 
of the mode toolbar and then click in every vertex of the created polyline. Building a line is completed after a double click in the last vertex.
The added line becomes selected element of the layout. The user can change the line style using the command Element+Properties.
