The left part of the status bar of layout editor window contains indication of the current scale of the screen layout display with respect to sizes the layout will have at printing. The scale value is given in percentage: the value 100% denotes that the so-called “logical centimeter” of the screen corresponds to one centimeter on the sheet of paper when printing. The value 200% denotes that the layout is displayed twice as big on the screen than on paper.
In fact, a logical centimeter corresponds to the real centimeter of the screen area very roughly. It is not that important since the main purpose of layouts is designing output forms for printing.
The maximum possible scale value is 800%. The minimum value depends on the current size of the editor window: either height or width of layout page display should not be less than half the height (half the width accordingly) of the editing pane.
There are several methods of changing layout displaying scale in the editing pane.
Modes of zooming in and zooming out (the buttons
and
of the editing mode toolbar) give a possibility to change layout displaying scale and if necessary shift the center of displayed fragment simultaneously.
The cursor takes the shape of a magnifying glass:
or
in these modes. There are two variants of using zooming in/zooming out modes:
“A click in the point”. If the user places the cursor in the required layout point and clicks in it, the system will redraw the editing pane, the scale will be increased or decreased and the point in which the cursor is located will be moved to the center of the pane.
“Selection of a rectangle”. To zoom in some rectangular fragment of displayed region to the size of the whole pane it is necessary to press the left mouse button in one corner of this fragment and release it in the opposite corner. After releasing the button the pane will be redrawn and the selected rectangular fragment will be zoomed in to the size of the pane. The center of the rectangle will become the center of the pane.
To decrease the scale the user should indicate some rectangular fragment in the editing pane by analogy. Displaying scale is decreased so many times as the side of the selected rectangle is less than the pane side.
The menu command View+Show Whole Layout (the button
of the command toolbar) changes the scale so that the whole layout page was in the editing pane.
The menu command View+Show in Real Size (the button
of the command toolbar) sets displaying scale equal to the scale at a printing device (it is indicated in the status bar as “From real size: 100%”). It is considered that the logical centimeter on the screen is equal to one centimeter at the printing device.
The menu command View+Show Selection (the button
of the command toolbar) sets the maximum possible displaying scale of the layout on the screen in which all selected elements fit into the editing pane.
Finally, the menu command View+Show Previous Fragment (the button
of the menu command) undoes the last operation of changing the scale.
This command does not affect performed operations of changing layout elements themselves, it changes only the displaying scale.
It is possible to undo only one operation of changing scale, repeated execution of the command Show Previous Fragment restores the changed scale.
