Table properties

If the table is an active element of the layout, a dialog box “Properties of table” shown at figure 48-2 is opened when the menu command Element+Properties is selected or the button is pushed.

If the box Draft is checked, the table is displayed in the window of layout editor as a rectangle of gray color in the center of which the word “Table” is displayed. It permits reducing the time for displaying the layout page on the screen but does not affect outputting the layout for printing.

To understand the purpose of the checkbox Fix scale it is necessary to get to know how cell sizes and other sizes linked with tables are measured.

Unit of length which can be considered “conditional centimeters“ for convenience are used to measure width and height of cells and also the sizes of font for texts in cells to design a table independently of the layout page sizes.

When displaying a table in a layout, conditional units of length are recalculated into real centimeters of the layout taking into account the scale factor specified in table properties. Scale 1 denotes that in printing one real centimeter will correspond to every “conditional centimeter” of the table. If scale 2 is specified, a table unit corresponds to 2 centimeters and so on. Thus, to increase the real sizes of all table elements by N times, it is enough to multiply the scale factor by number N.

If the box Fix scale is checked it is impossible to resize table display in the layout using a mouse, it is possible only to move the table along the layout page. If the box is cleared, table sizes can be changed moving one of the four handles located in the corners of selected table while holding down the left mouse button. The scale factor will be automatically recalculated basing on new sizes of the table.

The field Orientation allows the user to select one of the four possible rotation angles of table display from the list: 0°, 90°, 180° or 270°.
