Peculiarities of editing referenced fields

There is a peculiarity of editing fields for which a reference table is set. The contents of such a field cannot be changed by entering the value from the keyboard, it is possible only to select the value from the reference table.

When editing such a field a drop-down list with values from the reference table will be opened. If the field allows for entering an empty value, <empty value> will be the first line in the list.

If the field value in the reference table is indexed, the values in the drop-down list will be sorted by ascending order. When adding initial characters of the field value from the keyboard selection in the list is moved to the appropriate value. If the field value is not indexed, the values in the list will be shown in the same order as the records in the reference table. In this case quick selection by initial characters does not work.

It should be noted that actually not the contents of the reference field value will be placed in the appropriate record field of the table, but the value of the key field associated with it.

If for some record of the base table the field contains the value which is absent in the key field of reference table records, when displaying the base table with the reference set for the present field an empty value will substitute the field value of this record.
