Adding records

To enter the mode of adding records the menu command Records+Add in the map browser window should be used.

After performing this command a window of adding and editing records will be opened (figure 25-1). Instead of the record number “New record” will be displayed in the status bar.

The left pane contains field names, it is possible to select fields in this pane. Selected fields can be hidden, rearranged, etc. All the operations except for rearranging fields can be performed using the context menu or the menu Fields.

Multiple selection of fields is possible. To reset selection it is enough to click any mouse button in the right pane.

The right pane is called editing pane, it is meant for viewing and editing values of record fields.

After entering values in all the record fields the command Record+Add should be performed or the toolbar button pushed. If the data has been entered correctly, the new record will be added to the table.

The record being added can contain errors. For example, the field with attribute “Not empty” is not filled. In this case a message will be displayed, and the input focus will be placed in the error field.

The command Fields+Clean or the toolbar button serves for cleaning all the input fields.

The command View+Update causes redrawing of all the contents of the window. In some cases when the table is edited by several users simultaneously, the system is unable to automatically update display of the record being edited and displays a warning message with recommendation to perform the command Update.

The user has a possibility to perform setting of window control elements (menu, toolbars, shortcut keys). Performing the setting is described in detail in chapter 12 “Themes”, subsection “Customizing window control elements”.
