The notion of a query

In previous chapters issues of receiving new table representation differing from the standard one – queries were examined. In most cases queries are preferable compared with standard representation when working with a table. However, it is not very convenient to repeat the sequence of steps to get a query every time. ObjectLand allows the user to catalog (save) queries.

It should be noted that in cataloging not the query itself, that is, records and fields selected for a query, but the method of forming a query is saved. It means that in activating the query browser window selection and display of records is performed every time anew. Such a method permits effective displaying of changes of the contents of base tables, that is, the tables on the basis of which a query is built, in the query.

Further, if it does not cause ambiguity, the word “cataloged” in the expression “cataloged query” will be omitted, that is, “query” will denote “a cataloged query”.
