Properties of query fields

A field of a query is a result of performing various operations of building a query applied to one or several base tables. A property sheet “Properties of field” which is opened after the button is pushed with selected query field in the navigation window enables browsing and partial changing of a set of properties.

The property sheet is made up of two pages. The page “General” is shown at figure 30-1.

The first group of field properties contains the name of this field in the query, field type and also indication on the basis of which table field the present query field is built. Let us remind you that in case of table join one query can contain fields from different base tables.

If the present field is formed as a result of substitution from the reference table, the second group of properties contains the name of reference table, name of key field in the base table and name of value field in the reference table.

In the third group of properties it is indicated if the query field can be edited and also the width of the field, when the query browser window is opened.

The forth group of properties describes hidden and calculated query fields. If the field is a calculated one, the primary (hidden) field of the query and the operation applied to get the value of the calculated field are indicated for this field.

Most field properties shown on page “General” can be only viewed in the property sheet, changing these properties is performed by other means described above. However, some properties of the query field can be changed using the page “Setting” of the property sheet “Properties of field” shown at figure 30-2.

All page elements are clear without additional explanations. Setting a reference table is the same as it was described in chapter 27 ” Reference tables”, subsection “Setting a reference table”. The button Remove serves for canceling use of the reference table.

It should be noted that the page “Setting” of the property sheet “Properties of field” completes the set of tools allowing the user to specify all the characteristics of the query without opening the browser window of this query.
